So perhaps my celebrity encounter didn’t involve the biggest celebrity (Gary Busey… he’s sort of famous, right?), but it definitely was interesting and I want the bag!

I used to work as a hostess in an expensive Malibu restaurant, and my job involved seating the guests and being excessively friendly, no matter their demeanor. One day, Gary Busey came in and looked a bit of a deranged creepster, so none of the other hostesses wanted to seat him. They all pointed to me. So I mustered up my friendliest face and sat him at a nice window table, trying to make small talk. When he sat down, he motioned me to get closer to him and he mumbled something completely incomprehensible — I swear they weren’t even real words. Then, in a more understandable voice, he asked me to open the window so he could talk to the seagulls. I obliged, and for the next hour or so, I’d see him feed and talk to the seagulls from his table. He was nice, just very, very
odd.

Later that day I told my friend the story, and he said that a few hours ago (I’m assuming not long after Busey left the restaurant), he witnessed a car going along the street swerve and hit another car in the adjoining lane. The driver was, sure enough, Busey, who seemed to not notice and drive off. My friend was put in the weird position of telling the person whose car was hit that “um, the guy who hit your car was Gary Busey”… Awkward!
