Trend Thrift: Robertson Blvd.

TrendThrift is a weekly column, brought to you by our resident fashionista, Kate McChesney, as a review of boutiques in and around the Los Angeles area.

So I’ve been living in Los Angeles for almost two years and yes, this is my very first visit to the shopping Mecca of Robertson Blvd. Yah, yah, I hear your gasps and utter disgust, but there are reasons for this, including the absence of an automobile for a year, as well as getting to know other parts of the city. Excuses aside, Robertson Blvd really does live up to its legend of girl-power lunches and splurges.

From a budget point of view, Robertson is not the boulevard you would want to stop, so be prepared to drop a pretty penny if you fall in love with that jumper in the window. However, the shops are great for all sorts of fashion inspiration and people watching. The lovely ladies Kate Spade, Lisa Kline, Agnes B, among others, offer their cute, clever, creative designs on this gorgeous tree-lined street, which is just blocks away from the main drag of WeHo, known as Boys Town.

More on Kate’s shopping adventures on Robertson Blvd. after the jump…

Here is a run-down of my favorite shops on my excursion to Robertson…

Lisa Kline is for the typical Hollywood girl-next-door-I-just-caught-a-movie-producer-type. Spring has sprung and color is everywhere! Lisa Kline was sporting blues and greens, patterns, and light-colored capris. Petit Bateau, Juicy, and Frankie B were featured in the midst of Levi’s with custom velvet inserts, faux jewels, and lots of girly lingerie.

Kitson is sensory overload to the extreme! So much to see and touch, it’s hard to decide where to go first. Sarah Jessica Parker-inspired handbags and belts, Paul Frank wallets, and an Apothecary section boasting Peter Thomas Roth, Fresh and Ole Henrickson. Nice! Did I mention you can grab a baby shower gift AND that little outfit your doggy has been coveting so badly? Yup, Kitson is a one -stop shop has everything and it invites you to “come on in and play!”

LF, in my opinion, is the best store on the street. An alternative to mainstream brands, LF buy mostly out
of Europe and from up and coming design labels that you can’t find anywhere else. LF is not your normal
shopping experience: between layering, accessorizing, and mixing and matching patterns, LF is truly unique. Discovering new ways to incorporate LF’s exclusive pieces into individual fashion statements is what LF employees pride themselves upon. It is said that Scarlett Johansson, Mischa Barton, and Jessica Biel rely on LF stylists for a different look than the sea of Hollywood wannabees. High-waisted pants, colorful flats, and numerous jumpers littered the store.

Overall, I thought Robertson Blvd was a bit overrated and terribly expensive. It is a great street to spot the unexpected celebrity shopping, while sipping your cup of joe on a sunny SoCal day. Just be careful not to break your bank!
