TrendThrift is a weekly column, brought to you by our resident fashionista, Kate McChesney, as a review of boutiques in and around the Los Angeles area.

Last Thursday, July 19th, Mosci celebrated their two-year anniversary along with 944 magazine and Warning mag. Two ladies bravely modeled the latest Mosci collection on white platforms, which included several Colcci dresses and my favorite, a shorts-style one-piece metallic jumpsuit, while guests swarmed the small boutique’s shop floor. The event was packed with a mix of fashion veterans and newbies (I actually overheard one metro asking another questionable metro who Roberto Cavalli is), munching on hors d’oeuvres of sushi, crabcakes, and cheese, plus champagne, Brazilian wine, and mimosas.

It was a red-carpet event, with celebrities such as Tamara Feldman [Sexy Money] dressed in a beautiful long, flowy, printed dress, Amanda Beard [Olympian and current cover of Playboy], plus Leighton Meester [Gossip Girls] decked out in skintight high-waisted denim and red heals and Valery Ortiz [What About Brian?], being photographed left and right. The LA “It” girls of the moment (and most of them were, in reality, just girls) and aforementioned B-listers were photographed by Star, InTouch Weekly, TMZ, among other various slimy photo agencies.

Yup, this was an event where the business cards were being flashed like poker hands, but this doesn’t mean I had a bad time. Oh no, just the opposite. The DJ ruled, playing a mix of hip hop, rock & roll, and some serious bubble gum pop. Ladies were dancing by the end of the evening and the champagne never stopped flowing! Gift bags were given out throughout the evening, mine included a stylish Brazilian bikini, tiny little alumminum ashtray, and a super cute washcloth. I also snagged a pair of cobalt blue Colcci slip-on sandals for $49 after racking through the sale racks, spotting discounted Colcci dresses, tops, and Brazilian jeans. Mosci certainly hooked it up with discounts at the event!
