Look at the sea of tuxedos. What is it about a man in a suit that hits the mark every time? I’m not sure, but although Tyler Perry knew better than to try and compete with his co-host for last night’s NAACP Image Awards Halle Berry for most costume changes and kept his ensemble simple. Decked out in all black, Perry left the Madea costume at home and instead kept it sleek and sophisticated.

Looking dapper were all of the usually well-dressed suspects: Will Smith, Sean Combs and Al Gore. OK, so Al isn’t exactly a red carpet regular at entertainment events, but he looks like he probably sleeps in a suit, so that’s worth pointing out.

Of course, if anyone is going to deviate from the traditional black and white suit and tie combo, it’s going to be the music industry peeps. Will.i.am was rocking a retro look in his light-colored suit, hat and Elvis Costello glasses and tennis shoes. And Russell Simmons put a twist on his traditional suit by sporting his Yankees ball cap and his Adidas.
