ITV News tells of Usher’s latest musical endeavor:
R&B superstar Usher has added another success to his sparkling CV after making his Broadway debut in Chicago.
The 27-year-old plays slick lawyer Billy Flynn in the John Kander-Fred Ebb musical. A-list friends such as Penelope Cruz came out to support the singer, who said the chance to star on Broadway was a dream-come-true. He said: “Many years ago I decided to become an entertainer. I didn’t really know what that meant until I began to look at other people who had become the motivating force for me to do what I do. “As a young entertainer I looked at Bob Fosse’s work. I look at Sammy Davis Jr. I looked at Ben Vereen. I looked at all of the people who were real entertainers. They had the ability to be triple threats: dance, sing and act. I’ve danced. I’ve sang and done exceedingly well. I’ve acted and done well. I want the opportunity to be able to say, ‘You can’t call me a half entertainer’. I’m not. I’ve done it all.”
I’m assuming that his role calls for him to remove his shirt and marvel at the wonder that are his abs, stroking them gently and beckoning the audience to do the same. Because that’s the only thing I’ve ever seen him do.
The ladies were out in full force to witness Usher’s “Chicago” debut. Photos of Amerie, Gabrielle Union, Penelope Cruz and Haylie Duff are after the jump.
