We Veto Anne Hathaway’s Dream To Play Kate Middleton

August 25th, 2011 // 3 Comments

Anne Hathaway looked great at the European premiere of One Day in London Monday night.  Dressed in a cream Alexander McQueen gown with her hair swept to the side, Hathaway appeared comfortable and confident on the red carpet.  And while we appreciate that she wore the same designer favored by Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cambridge, a line must be drawn at this next statement made by Hathaway.

The Sun‘s Gordon Smart asked catwoman if she would reprise her (crap) Yorkshire accent to play Catherine should a movie ever come to fruition, Hathaway said, “I haven’t really thought about it before but yes, why not. She’s great. It’s such a fairytale.”  Of course she would.  So would every other girl in the world.  That doesn’t mean she should.

Listen, we loved Hathaway in The Princess Diaries, but that does not a Kate Middleton make!  Hathaway’s accent prevented me a few other people from seeing One Day (ya’ll couldn’t find a decent Brit to play the part?), so to have to sit through a film where Hathaway pretends to play the most glorious young lady of our time would be nothing short of disastrous.

And good luck getting you hair to look like Catherine’s should you be fortunate to play her.

It should be stated that I don’t detest Hathaway in any way.  I think she’s great, but her accent in One Day really put a bad taste in my mouth.

Kate Middleton is “the most glorious young lady of our time”?!

Calling the Hyperbole SWAT Team! Seriously. More glorious than, say… young female doctors? Scientists? Policewomen? Teachers? Members of the armed forces?

In other words: a beautiful, charismatic, and heinously wealthy woman who is perched at the top of the social/artistocratic registry and dresses beautifully, all that she certainly is. Far and away more “glorious” than all those other women her age who make considerable tangible contributions to the world? I find that characterization hard to swallow.

“the most glorious young lady of our time”??? Now – I don’t begrudge her the choices she’s made BUT her only achievement is — and will likely remain — marrying a rich boy that many woman were probably trying for. She’s pretty and nicely dressed in the way that most 20-somethings would be pretty and nicely dressed if they had an unlimited styling budget and little to do but consider how to spend it. She’s chosen to devote her life to opening Tesco’s, waving from balconies and breeding. How is any of that “glorious”?

Congratulations on winning the award for the most moronic comment of the week!
