Winners: 81st Annual Academy Awards

Slumdog Millionaire took home the grand prize for Best Picture and the film also collected the following awards: Cinematography, Adapted Screenplay and Director for Danny Boyle and Best Original Song and Sound Mixing.

Kate Winslet shook like a leaf when she gave her profuse thanks on stage after winning her first Oscar in the Lead Actress category for her turn in The Reader. For the mens, it was Sean Penn who took it for the leading man, thanking his “brother, Mickey Rourke.” Aww, I heart Mickey and his comeback.

It was an emotional high point of the 81st Annual Academy Awards when Heath Ledger‘s mother, father and sister arrived on stage to accept their son’s posthumous Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Joker in The Dark Knight.

For the ladies, Penelope Cruz accepted her Best Supporting Actress award for her work in Vicky Cristina Barcelona delivering a bilingual speech intended to especially for her Spanish countrymen.

Although it’s star Brad Pitt went home empty handed, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button won for Art Direction, Makeup, Visual Effects and Art Direction. And if two thumbs up to singing and dancing Hugh Jackman, who was the host with the mostest.
