While Kanye West should be celebrating his single “Stronger” reaching the top of the UK singles chart, he’s too busy discussing his struggle with homophobia to care. Kanye was once disgusted by the homophobia he experienced in the hip-hop world, stating he met “so many different gay people who are actually nice people.” Unfortunately, he changed his tune after rap fans questioned his sexually.
Kanye now says he, too, remains a homophobe.
“Speaking out against hip-hop homophobia, some people were like ‘Oh, Kanye must be gay! Look at the way he’s dressing! And why would he speak about it? He’s a gay rapper’,” he notes. “And my whole point is, I wouldn’t have spoke on that if I was gay or if I was in the closet. I would have stayed so far away from it.
“And I’m still homophobic myself to certain extent… You know, I wouldn’t go to a gay parade and feel comfortable. I wouldn’t ever to a gay club or something and just be chillin’ and grab a drink.

“It’s being in the entertainment world, I meet so many different gay people who are actually nice people. Where I came from, Chicago, being black and being a hip-hop artist, we used to really disrespect gay people. And the thing is, we can’t get close to them with a 10-foot pole. And I realized, ‘Wow, how ignorant has this been?’”
It’s a bummer Kanye backtracked. I wonder if he even recognized the gays might have had a hand in “Stronger” reaching number one. Now that’s something for him to ponder.

Hmmm… I don’t really see where he backtracked. He said he himself wasn’t gay but was raised in a very homophobic society and that he KNOWS HOMOPHOBIA TO BE IGNORANT and still struggles with the conflict between old teachings and new enlightenment. Once again, he’s proven to be honest, a fallable human, a work in progress, striving to do a little better than he did yesterday. Better that than a hypocrit. Props.

I can’t stand Con?Yeah! either. Ugh… He’s despicable. He has absolutely no reason to have any negative feelings toward gays. Oh, and his comment that Bush hates black people was pretty retarded too.

I don’t get the kneejerk attacks here. Kanye’s alright. I’m gay, and I understand where he’s coming from. Honestly, even I don’t like most gay clubs. They’re usually loud with stupid music and generally full of obnoxious/aloof scene queens that complain the entire time. Nor do I go to pride parades or rallies. I’m secure with my social and sexual identity and do not require it to be constantly reinforced with such stereotypical crap. So booty!

Oh please Sandy, Bush does hate Black people. Look at NO. It’s still a crap sh*t, and SOB is more focused on his failed wars than the rebuilding a city that is part of American History. As for Kanye, he’s too cocky but his music is good. Rappers have always been homophobic, don’t expect that to change.

Indifference and intolerance are not one and the same. GWB may not care much about N.O. but I doubt there is any real animosity behind his position. After all, American politics is very media driven & the vast majority of public officials are much more concerned with expedience than any sort of legitimate ajudication.
