His newest film, The Paperboy, receives its gala premiere on Thursday. An adaptation of the 1995 novel by Pete Dexter, the film is set in 1960s South Florida, where a young man (Efron) witnesses a series of events while his journalist older brother (Matthew McConaughey) is recruited by a death-row groupie (Nicole Kidman) to prove that a man convicted of murder (John Cusack) is innocent.
Efron’s forthcoming project, Townies, has just found a director. In the film Seth Rogen plays a regular guy who lives close to a college fraternity house, with Efron taking the role of a raucous member of the frat who makes Rogen’s family life miserable. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Get Him To The Greek director Nicholas Stoller has secured the director’s chair instead.
Our little Zac’s film roles are growing up.
