Australian actor Chris Hemsworth was given GQ‘s highest honor at the 2012 awards last night (November 12, 2012).

The 29-year-old said he was “thrilled” to have taken the top prize and appeared via video link to accept the accolade. “GQ has been so supportive of me right from the beginning of my career,” he said during his acceptance speech, “and it’s an honor and a privilege to be acknowledged within their pages.”

The actor is featured in the latest issue of GQ and revealed the magazine that he had an “isolated” childhood growing up in a small town in Australia.

The 29-year-old actor grew up in an Aboriginal community in Bulman, Australia, where he was one of only two white families, and he was accustomed to being close to wildlife.

He said: “It was a different world. There were crocodiles and buffalo. We were isolated, one of two white families. We saw a lot of corroborees and tribal dancing. I have a wider understanding for the Aboriginal situation because of my time there. It’s an insight into that world that most people don’t get.”
