Alec Baldwin’s Rust case dismissed by judge over withheld ammunition evidence

In a significant turn of events, a judge has dismissed the involuntary manslaughter charge against actor Alec Baldwin in the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The incident occurred on the set of the indie Western Rust in 2021 when Baldwin accidentally discharged a firearm.

Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer made the decision after defense attorneys filed a motion accusing the prosecution of withholding evidence. The case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning the state cannot pursue a new trial against Baldwin.
