WHAT? Now I really want to see this movie.
According to the podcast Origins, the third Sex and the City movie planned to kill off Mr. Big, then follow Carrie as she struggled to cope with the loss.
How was the unsinkable Big going to die? Reportedly via heart attack in the shower, reports podcast host James Andrew Miller.
Chris Noth, who plays Big, told podcast host Miller that he’d heard the script for the third film was “superior,” though he admitted to not liking the first two movies at all. “I just hate the cornball shit… and I thought it was… sentimental and overly romantic,” he said.
Star Sarah Jessica Parker revealed back in 2017 that a third film was not happening.
At the time, there were rumors that Kim Cattrall had refused to do the third movie.
Miller says he also spoke to sources close to Cattrall who did not believe she ever planned on joining the third movie but was put off even more by the plot detail. Miller’s sources said “the remainder of the movie [was] more about how Carrie recovers from Big’s death than about the relationship between the four women,” meaning the script “didn’t have a lot to offer the character of Samantha.”
But Parker said at the time (in 2017) “I’m disappointed,” when attending the New York City Ballet Gala.
“We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story. It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.”
Sex and the City 2 was released in 2010 to abysmal critical response and a running time of nearly two and a half hours. Still, the film made almost US$300 million at the box office.
