Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent 2 Gets New Poster, Title and Release Date
Disney is moving up the release date of its Maleficent sequel by seven months – and we now have a confirmed title and first poster.
Angelina Jolie is back in all of her wicked goodness, showing the horn headed dark angel as she gets ready for another fantastical adventure.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil was originally set for release on May 29, 2020. It’s now hitting cinemas on October 18, 2019.
The first movie was released in May 2014 and brought in over $758 million, on a budget of $180 million, more than four times the figure invested.
The sequel is described as follows:
A fantasy adventure that picks up several years after Maleficent, in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disney’s most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora, Maleficent II continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen, as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.
Elle Fanning is set to return to the sequel as Princess Aurora, the young royal who was cursed by Maleficent to prick her finger and fall into a magical slumber, only to be awoken by love’s true kiss.

The character of Prince Phillip also returns, though this time the role will be played by Clique‘s Harris Dickinson, replacing Brenton Thwaites from the first film.
Michelle Pfeiffer has joined Maleficent 2 as Queen Ingris, while Chiwetel Ejiofor has been cast and is rumored to be a potential love interest for Jolie’s character.
The first Maleficent was a hit, but it feels as if it came out so long ago. Will audiences still be game for a sequel?
