Ariana Grande‘s steamy music video for “The Boy Is Mine” has finally dropped!
Grande, 30, enlisted Penn Badgley to star alongside her to bring this highly anticipated visual to life. The video made its debut on Friday, June 7.
Set in a city reminiscent of New York, the clip begins with a sanitation worker voicing frustration over fictional Mayor Max Starling’s neglect in addressing the city’s rat infestation.

Grande is then shown concocting a potion in her home, as a news broadcast featuring Brandy and Monica, who sang the original “The Boy Is Mine,” plays on her TV. The broadcasters introduce the mayor’s segment, where Starling announces his plan to release stray cats to tackle the rat issue.
Grande finds this idea “brilliant” and is revealed to be making a love potion specifically for the mayor.

Although her cat breaks the potion bottle, she manages to salvage some of it before suiting up in a masked, Catwoman-esque costume and dancing around a shrine dedicated to Starling.
She then breaks into Starling’s house, watching him from afar until he finds her sitting on his bed. Initially scared, he attempts to leave, but she convinces him to stay and gives him the potion. He removes her mask, revealing her face, and throws away the love potion—because he’s already smitten with her.

The video is directed by Christian Breslauer, known for his work on “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” and “Yes, And?”
Grande first teased the music video on Monday, May 27, and hinted that Badgley, 37, would co-star in a TikTok post on Monday, June 3, showing him dancing to the song’s chorus.

“The Boy Is Mine,” which reimagines Brandy and Monica’s 1998 hit, is Grande’s latest single from her seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine.
“In a way, I was kind of like, ‘This is a very bad idea.’ But there is a large group of my fans that really do love a bad girl anthem, and this is an elevated version of that,” Grande said.
