Pop star Bebe Rexha claims she was threatened and stopped from flying after speaking Albanian to a security agent.
Rexha, who has North Macedonian and Albanian roots, shared a tearful video on Instagram on August 17. She tagged Lufthansa Airlines and explained what she said happened.
“I’ve been threatened because I thought the security agent was Albanian. I spoke to him in Albanian asking where to get my ticket and now he is banning me from the flight,” she wrote over the video.
In another post, Rexha called the incident a “hate crime.”
“I believe this to be a hate crime because I am Albanian,” she stated. TMZ reports that an airline rep said they’re in touch with Rexha.
The singer said the agent wouldn’t let her see his name and “continued to mentally abuse me to make me feel like he was more powerful.” She later said the agent worked for a company hired by Lufthansa and accused airline staff of not stepping in.
It’s not clear if Rexha made her flight.
This isn’t Rexha’s first public incident. In June 2023, she posted photos of her face after a fan threw a phone at her during a New York concert.
Rexha went to the hospital after being hit. Later photos showed she had a bruised eye and bandaged eyebrow from the incident.
