Daddy’s cooking again. Benito Skinner has delivered the only season two update fans needed — and he made sure to make it count.

The Overcompensating creator and star took to Instagram on April 28, 2026 to announce, “Back 2 school… Overcompensating season 2 is now filming!” — accompanied by a shirtless pic featuring a clapperboard and a blurred background full of equally shirtless men. As far as production announcements go, this one earns bonus points for aesthetics.

Skinner had previously told fans via Instagram, “WE’RE OFFICIALLY GOING BACK 2 SCHOOL. Thank you so much for all your insane love for this show. And thank you for being so patient while Daddy’s been cooking season 2.”

Fan reaction in the comments was immediate and unhinged in the best way. One person wrote: “Season 2 hallelujah.” Another said: “I need it!” Honestly, same.

The show premiered May 15, 2025 on Amazon Prime Video and was renewed for a second season in September 2025, with the writers’ room launching in July 2025.

Overcompensating quickly skyrocketed to the No. 1 spot on Prime Video’s watchlist after an initial underestimation — a true slow burn turned streaming sensation.

Skinner has made no secret of where the story is headed. He told Variety he was “ready to go,” adding: “I think I know what I want to do and there’s so much more we wanna say. There will be backslide, and that’s what that finale is.”

At an FYC panel last June, Skinner elaborated: “We have so many stories that we are not done telling. There’s so much more to say in that experience of someone who’s in the closet versus out, and the friction and finding friendship and that.”

The shirtless pic may be the hook, but the story behind it — a queer college comedy with genuine emotional stakes — is why Overcompensating has become Prime Video’s most talked-about series. Season 2 can’t come soon enough.
