The women of the 2026 Met Gala may have grabbed the headlines — Rihanna in Maison Margiela, Beyoncé in a bejeweled skeleton gown — but the men? They came with art history homework done, receipts in hand, and couture to match.
The theme this year, “Fashion is Art,” was inspired by the Costume Institute’s exhibition “Costume Art,” and the guys on the red carpet treated it like a final exam they’d been studying for all semester.
Bad Bunny was nearly unrecognizable after aging himself several decades via prosthetics, silver hair, a beard, and a walking cane. The all-black custom Zara suit was a direct nod to Charles James’ 1947 work Bustle, part of the Costume Institute’s permanent collection. The Puerto Rican superstar, never one to play it safe, told Vogue on the carpet, “I always try to do something different,” joking the look took “53 years” to pull together.

Colman Domingo, one of last year’s co-chairs, always knocks it out of the park with his menswear choices, arriving in a sharp Valentino checkered ensemble that proved he has no intention of resting on his laurels.

Stars like Jon Batiste, Russell Westbrook, and Danny Ramirez opted for something more out of the box rather than defaulting to the safe tuxedo play — and fashion lovers are grateful for it.
