Seven years after Daniel Day-Lewis said he was done with acting, he’s making a surprising comeback. The Oscar winner is set to star in his son Ronan Day-Lewis‘ first movie as a director, called Anemone.
Focus Features and Plan B, the companies behind the film, shared the news on Tuesday. They seem pretty excited about it.
“We’re thrilled to work with Ronan Day-Lewis on his first feature film, with Daniel Day-Lewis as his creative partner,” said Peter Kujawski from Focus. “They’ve written a really special script.”
Daniel Day-Lewis isn’t just acting in Anemone – he also helped write it with his son. He’ll be sharing the screen with Sean Bean from Game of Thrones and Samantha Morton from The Whale.
The movie is about relationships between fathers, sons, brothers, and family bonds. It sounds like it could hit close to home for the Day-Lewis family.
Ronan Day-Lewis, who’s 26, has mostly been focusing on painting until now. It’s interesting to see him step into filmmaking.
His dad, Daniel, has won three Oscars for There Will Be Blood, Lincoln, and Phantom Thread. That’s quite a legacy to live up to.
