Demi Moore has opened up about her experience working with Tom Cruise on the 1992 film A Few Good Men, revealing that she believes her co-star appeared uncomfortable with her pregnancy during the production’s early stages.
Speaking at the New Yorker Festival on Saturday during a Q&A session with journalist Jia Tolentino, the 62-year-old actress shared that she was approximately eight months pregnant with her daughter Scout Willis when she began reading lines alongside Cruise and director Rob Reiner.
“I think Tom was quite embarrassed,” Moore recalled during the event. “I actually felt okay about it. I was moving around, though, right? But I could tell he felt that it was a bit awkward.”

Moore explained that during the early 1990s, many actors in Hollywood weren’t balancing parenthood with their careers, which may have contributed to Tom Cruise’s apparent discomfort. The actress noted that it was rare for performers to juggle motherhood and their professional lives at that time, adding, “It’s one of the many things, for me, that I just felt didn’t make sense. And so I challenged that to say, you know, ‘Why not? Why can’t you have both?'”
However, Moore acknowledged that her determination to prove she could manage both roles created significant self-imposed pressure. The actress revealed she felt compelled to get in shape for her role as a Navy lawyer in a military uniform, even before giving birth.

“I was going to be in a military uniform, and probably overly anticipated and started working out and trying to get in shape even before she was born,” Moore said. “I did a two-and-a-half-hour hike the day my water broke. I did a 24-mile bike ride, and then was dancing at a reggae club — hence why she came two-and-a-half weeks early.”
Looking back on that period, Moore questioned her motivations, asking, “What the f–k was I thinking? And what was I even trying to prove?”
Demi Moore shares three daughters—Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah—with ex-husband Bruce Willis. During her second pregnancy, Moore made headlines by appearing naked and heavily pregnant on the controversial August 1991 cover of Vanity Fair.

A Few Good Men, based on Aaron Sorkin‘s play, starred Cruise, Moore, and Jack Nicholson. The film was a major success and remains one of Hollywood’s most iconic courtroom dramas, grossing $141.3 million worldwide.
Representatives for Tom Cruise have not responded to requests for comment regarding Moore’s recent remarks.
Moore was recently nominated for Best Actress at the 2025 Oscars for her role in The Substance, in which she portrayed an aging celebrity who uses a black-market drug to make herself look younger.
