Euphoria and Greyโs Anatomy star Eric Dane is opening up for the first time in an interview after receiving devastating news of an ALS diagnosis earlier in 2023.
In a moving conversation with Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America, Dane struggled to hold back tears while discussing his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis from April. (The condition is commonly known as Lou Gehrigโs disease.)
โI wake up every day and Iโm immediately reminded that this is happening,โ he revealed in a preview clip shared for the interview on June 12. Sawyer responded, โItโs not a dream,โ which Dane echoed back to her.

โI donโt think this is the end of my story,โ he added. โI donโt feel like this is the end of me.โ
The news of Daneโs diagnosis came shortly after he and his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, called off their divorce proceedings.
The complete Good Morning America interview with Dane will air June 16. The couple are parents to two kids, and Gayheart initially filed divorce papers in February 2018; she submitted documents to dismiss the petition in March 2025.
Speaking to People in April about his ALS diagnosis, Dane expressed, โI am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.โ He requested privacy while they work through this new phase of their lives.
He confirmed heโll return as Cal Jacobs in Euphoria season 3, with filming beginning shortly after Dane revealed his diagnosis.
ALS, a rare degenerative condition, currently has no cure; according to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, patients typically survive three to five years after diagnosis, though some individuals can live for decades.
