Prime Video has officially greenlit a prequel series to the beloved film Legally Blonde, titled Elle, in collaboration with Reese Witherspoon‘s Hello Sunshine production company.
The series, which will see Insecure creator Laura Kittrell at the helm as showrunner, is set to take fans back to the high school days of the iconic Elle Woods, portrayed by Witherspoon in the original movies. This fresh series aims to provide a glimpse into the people and experiences that shaped the tenacious and spirited woman who would end up chasing love at Harvard Law School.
Reese Witherspoon couldn’t contain her excitement, channeling Elle Woods in a TikTok video that mimicked the original movie’s opening scene, complete with the script printed on Elle’s signature scented pink paper.
“Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, she was just a regular ‘90s high school girl. And all of you are going to get to know her, next year on @Prime Video ✨ I’M SO EXCITED! 🩷💫🎀💅🏻🤩,” she captioned the clip.
“I truly couldn’t be more excited about this series!” Witherspoon added in a statement. “Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do. What could be better than that?! I’m extremely grateful to the incredible teams at Prime Video and Hello Sunshine – along with our amazing writer Laura Kittrell – for making this dream of mine come true. Legally Blonde is back!”
