Taylor Lautner doesnโ€™t think it was โ€œwiseโ€ to joke about Taylor Swift and John Mayer.

The โ€˜Twilightโ€™ actor caused a stir earlier this week when he joked he felt โ€œsafeโ€ about the news his former girlfriend was releasing โ€˜Speak Now (Taylorโ€™s Versionโ€™ ) โ€“ a re-recorded version of her 2010 record which features โ€˜Back to Decemberโ€™, a song said to be inspired by their brief romance โ€“ but was โ€œprayingโ€ for the โ€˜Gravityโ€™ hitmaker, who is believed to be the person unfavourably portrayed on the albumโ€™s โ€˜Dear Johnโ€™.

And now Taylor has admitted he may have spoken out of turn.

Speaking on โ€˜The Happy Hourโ€™ on TODAY Show Radio on SiriusXM, he said: โ€œI donโ€™t know if it was the wisest thing to say. I was definitely joking, but clearly itโ€™s taken off.โ€โ€˜

The 31-year-old actor admitted his wife,Tay Dome Lautner, โ€œknew immediatelyโ€ his remarks may be taken the wrong way.

He said: โ€œSheโ€™s like, โ€˜Thatโ€™s gonna trigger the Swifties, or I mean, they were supportive of it.โ€™ I personally think John is a very talent musician, but I am aware of a couple songs that were on that album.โ€

Taylor admitted he and his spouse are keen to see the โ€˜Shake It Offโ€™ singer in action on her current โ€˜Erasโ€™ tour.

He said: โ€œAbsolutely, sheโ€™s a diehard Swiftie.โ€

The โ€˜Abductionโ€™ singer made his controversial comments earlier this week.

He told Today.com: โ€œI think itโ€™s a great album. Yeah, I feel safe. Praying for John.โ€

While Taylor rarely confirms the speculation surrounding her lyrics, John, 45, previously admitted the lyrics to โ€˜Dear Johnโ€™ made him โ€œfeel terribleโ€ and was โ€œhumiliatedโ€ by the song.

He told Rolling Stone magazine in 2012: โ€œBecause I didnโ€™t deserve it. Iโ€™m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.

โ€œI never got an email. I never got a phone call. I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when Iโ€™d already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest youโ€™ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower?โ€
