Idris Elba is receiving praise for his support of the #MeToo movement.
In an interview with The Times newspaper in the UK, the 46-year-old actor was asked how hard it was for him as an actor in Hollywood during the #MeToo era.
Elba replied, “It’s only difficult if you’re a man with something to hide.”
Amen to that! Celebrities gave Elba shout-outs for his reply on Twitter.
As Vanity Fair notes, Elba’s response is getting a lot of attention because of how dissimilar it is from the likes of Matt Damon and Henry Cavill, both of whom had to issue apologies for their misguided statements.
This is not the first time that the Luther star has spoken out on issues such as this one before. On the promotional tour for Molly's Game last year he praised the predominantly female-led cast, as well as the fact that it was written by a woman.
He said: “It's quite poignant.”
“Of course, this is a film that was made a year ago, and probably prepped two or three years ago, but to come out when it's coming out now is actually quite amazing, when we're seeing women stand up and have a liberation movement of speaking up against some their atrocities that has happened.”
