American Crime Story season three is almost upon us – and just days after Impeachment shared a glimpse of Beanie Feldstein’s Monica Lewinsky, the series has now unveiled its first teaser trailer (see below).
Impeachment chronicles “the national crisis that swept up Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky and Linda Tripp as principal characters in the country’s first impeachment proceedings in over a century,” per the official logline.
This is definitely not a full trailer, but a teaser as only Ryan Murphy knows how to give.
In the teaser, the camera following Lewinsky as she boxes up a tie for President Clinton and hides it in a file folder before making her way to the Oval Office. As an ominous score plays in the background, an on-screen graphic reminds us that “the President of the United States had a secret affair with a 22-year-old intern.”
“Mr. President? Miss Lewinsky’s here to see you,” we hear the President’s secretary say as Lewinsky stands in the doorway and Clinton slowly turns to the camera. We don’t see either of their faces, but we already know that Clive Owen plays Bill Clinton.
Based on Jeffrey Toobin’s 2000 book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President, Impeachment will bring the controversy of the Clinton-Lewinsky political scandal, and the trial that followed, to the small screen.
Ryan Murphy staple Sarah Paulson is also on board the upcoming series, with the actress playing Linda Tripp, a former US civil servant who secretly recorded phone calls with Monica Lewinsky as she spoke about her relationship with the then-president.
