Jared Padalecki has revealed a deeply personal chapter of his life that took place during the middle of Supernaturalโ€™s 15-year run. The actor, known for his role as Sam Winchester, admitted to battling suicidal thoughts and seeking help in 2015.

In a recent episode of Tommy DiDarioโ€™s Iโ€™ve Never Said This Before podcast, which was excerpted by People.com, Padalecki shared, โ€œIt was 2015, I had a really low moment. I was letting my thoughts take over and kind of going to places of dramatic suicidal ideation.โ€

During this challenging time, Padalecki reached out to his wife, Genevieve, who was also present on the podcast. โ€œI called my wife and she said, โ€˜Get home,โ€™โ€ he recounted. Following her advice, he went home and checked into a clinic for a couple of weeks. โ€œI looked into it, and havenโ€™t been suicidal since. Not for a moment.โ€

Reflecting on his career at the time, Padalecki, who had already spent 15 years in the entertainment industry starting with Gilmore Girls, said he desperately needed a reset. He had been putting on a happy face at auditions, red carpets, and interviews for too long. โ€œI had done that for so long, trying to focus on whatโ€™s best for the person whoโ€™s talking to me as opposed to just being honest.โ€
