Summary
- Joseph Duggar, 31, was arrested March 18, 2026 on child molestation charges stemming from an alleged 2020 incident involving a 9-year-old girl during a family vacation in Florida.
- Sister Jill Duggar Dillard and her husband Derick expressed being “shocked and heartbroken,” condemned the abuse, and called for justice for the victim.
- Josh Duggar — currently serving a 12-year federal prison sentence for child pornography — weighed in through his attorney, while Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s compound remained conspicuously silent.
The Duggar family is once again at the center of a devastating scandal. Joseph Duggar, 31, was arrested on March 18, 2026, in Tontitown, Arkansas, and charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior — one involving the molestation of a victim under 12 years old, and another for such conduct by a person 18 or older. He was accused of molesting a 9-year-old girl multiple times during a 2020 family vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida. He was arrested in Arkansas and is awaiting extradition to Bay County, which covers Panama City.
The alleged victim, now 14, spoke with police, and the story that followed was damning. The girl’s father confronted Joseph about the abuse, and Joseph admitted to it. Police then had the father call Joseph with a detective on the line, and Joseph again admitted to the actions, according to the arrest affidavit.
According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, the details are disturbing: “The victim reported Duggar repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap. As the vacation continued, he also asked her to sit next to him on a couch and covered them with a blanket. During this time, Duggar manipulated the victim’s underwear and grazed her genitals. Duggar would also continue to rub his hands on her thighs.”
The family’s reaction to the arrest was swift — at least from some of them.
Jill Duggar Dillard, 34, and her husband Derick Dillard, 37, were among the first to speak out publicly. Writing in a blog post on March 19, the couple said they “first learned of anything related to his charges yesterday via a text from a friend who messaged us about the recent media reports of Joseph’s arrest and his alleged confession to molesting a juvenile female in 2020.”
The family wrote they “strongly condemn abuse” and “support the rule of law and hope that justice will be achieved.”
Their statement didn’t stop there. “Our hearts go out to the innocent juvenile victim of this unspeakable crime and her family,” Jill said in the family’s statement. They added that they pray the victim gets “all the help and support she needs and deserves in the days ahead.”
Jill and Derick also turned their attention to Joseph’s wife, Kendra Caldwell Duggar, and their four young children. “We love our sister-in-law, Kendra, and our four nieces and nephews and pray that they feel loved and supported during this time,” the Dillard family continued, “as we cannot imagine the indescribable pain they feel as they process and grieve everything.”
It’s worth noting that Jill is no stranger to this kind of heartbreak. She was previously identified as one of the victims of older brother Josh Duggar’s sexual abuse when she was a child, and has spoken publicly about the trauma of that experience.
Speaking of Josh — yes, even the Duggar currently serving federal prison time had something to say about his brother’s arrest. An attorney for Josh told the Daily Mail that “Josh understands the stigma of being accused,” noting that Josh and Joseph are “not in frequent communication,” while adding that Josh “expressed hopes and prays for his brother’s well being in this difficult time.” The optics there are, to put it gently, something.
Joseph’s arrest comes almost five years after Josh was convicted of downloading child sexual abuse images and was subsequently sentenced to 12 years and 7 months in federal prison.
As for the matriarch and patriarch, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar? Their Tontitown compound told its own story. Hours after the arrest, the family compound appeared still, with four white vehicles parked in the driveway. “There was literally nothing happening,” a source told In Touch. “Just looked like another day.” No public statement from Joseph’s parents had been issued at the time of publication.
This is the second time in less than five years that the Duggar family name has been directly tied to the sexual abuse of children. TLC canceled 19 Kids and Counting in 2015 following allegations that Josh Duggar had molested four of his sisters and a babysitter years earlier. The family never fully recovered its public image after that, and this new chapter involving Joseph Duggar suggests the reckoning is far from over.
Joseph’s wife, Kendra, and their four children have not made a public statement. Joseph has no known attorney on record in Florida as of publication.
