According to reports, Justin Timberlake has accepted a lower traffic violation as part of a plea deal in his New York DWI case. In exchange, authorities have dropped the drunk driving charge against him. He also issued a court-ordered apology Friday after accepting a plea deal.

Per the AP, Timberlake will have to perform 25 hours of community service, pay a small fine of up to $500 with a $260 surcharge, and make a Public Service Announcement.

โ€œI did not live up to the standards that I try to hold for myself,โ€ he told Judge Carl Irace on Friday (Sep. 13, 2024). โ€œI shouldโ€™ve had better judgment โ€ฆ I understand the seriousness of this.โ€

โ€œI try to hold myself to a very high standard, for myself, and this was not that,โ€ Timberlake told the news media and other onlookers after the hearing in the adjacent Sag Harbor Village Court.

โ€œEven if youโ€™ve had one drink, donโ€™t get behind the wheel of a car,โ€ he said. โ€œThereโ€™s so many alternatives. Call a friend. Take an Uber. Thereโ€™s many travel apps. Still, take a taxi. This is a mistake that I made, but Iโ€™m hoping that whoever is watching and listening right now can learn from this mistake. I know that I certainly have.โ€
