Rapper Kanye West is pissing off just about everyone for using their music without their permission.
Donna Summer‘s estate has alleged West sampled her music without permission. The “Stronger” rapper has reportedly used an unauthorized interpolation of the late singer’s 1977 hit “I Feel Love” on “Good (Don’t Die),” which features on his and Ty Dolla $ign’s newly-released joint album Vultures 1.
The song features the lyrics “Oh, I’m alive, I’m alive, I’m alive, I’m alive” seemingly set to the melody of the classic track from the Queen of Disco, who died in 2012 aged 63.
A statement shared to the Instagram Story for Donna’s account said, “Kanye West… asked permission to use Donna Summer’s song I Feel Love, he was denied… he changed the words, had someone re sing it or used AI but it’s I Feel Love… copyright infringement!!! (sic)”
You can compare Summer’s classic song to the new tune from West below. Here is “I Feel Love”:
Ozzy Osbourne is also calling out West for using a sample of a live recording of Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” during an album listening party for his upcoming release Vultures in Chicago.
“I want no association with this man!” Osbourne wrote on Twitter, noting that West’s people had previously approached him about including a non-vocal sample of a 1983 performance of “Iron Man” on his upcoming album but promptly shot him down. This doesn’t appear to have stopped West from using the song in the semi-official form of an album listening party.
