Keanu Reeves’ Neo Will Return in The Matrix 4
Nearly 20 years after the original was released, Keanu Reeves will once again star in the latest installment of the Sci-Fi film The Matrix, Warner Brothers announced on Tuesday (August 20, 2019).
Reeves will once again be joined by Carrie-Anne Moss. The two will reprise their roles of Neo and Trinity, respectively.
A release date for the fourth installment of The Matrix has not been announced. The third installment of the franchise was released in 2003.
“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” producer Lana Wachowski said in a statement. “I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”
Warner Bros did not specify if the new film would be a direct sequel, saying only that it was “set in the world of The Matrix,” and did not give a release date.
Work on the sequel is said to begin in early 2020.
The original franchise earned $1.6 billion at the box office.
