In a candid interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Lisa Rinna, the 60-year-old dynamo known for her roles in both reality TV and scripted dramas, opened up about her substantial stint on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and how it unexpectedly honed her acting skills.
Rinna, whose career spans over three decades, recently made headlines with her decision to leave the iconic Bravo series after eight years.
“Believe it or not, being part of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has made me a better actor,” Rinna shared with Hudson. The actress recently returned to scripted television and expressed genuine gratitude towards the reality series for refining her acting prowess. “I'm acting again, and it's no joke. It truly enhanced my skills,” she emphasized.
Rinna's latest venture, a Lifetime movie titled Mommy Meanest, sees her starring opposite her daughter, Delilah Belle Hamlin, 25. The film, rooted in the chilling reality of cyberbullying, portrays a teenager tormented online by her own mother.
Rinna attributed her compelling performance in the movie to the complex dynamic and psychological insights gained from her time with the housewives.
“Working with those women, going through that experience… I just did a movie called Mommy Meanest, which I trained for for 8 years on that show,” Rinna said. I definitely did, and I had a lot to pull from. I have a lot to pull from after working for 8 years on that show. Different psychologies of different women—I never would have come across that if I hadn't done that show.”
When probed by Hudson about the possibility of returning to the reality series, Rinina's response was swift and definitive. “No, never. No I wouldn't,” Rinna quickly said. “I'm grateful for that show. I'm the person I am today because of it, but I'll never go back. Nope, I did it. Did it, done it, saw the movie.”
Rinna officially bid farewell to RHOBH in January 2023, following the expiration of her contract, marking the end of the longest engagement of her career.
In her parting statement, Rinna expressed her deep appreciation for the opportunity RHOBH afforded her. “This is the longest job I have held in my 35 year career and I am grateful to everyone at Bravo and all those involved in the series,” Rinna said in a statement. “It has been a fun eight-year run and I am excited for what is to come!” Joining the show in its fifth season in 2014, Rinna's departure signaled the end of an era, both for her and for fans of the series.
As Rinna ventures into new projects and continues to evolve as an artist, her reflections offer a fascinating glimpse into the intersection of reality TV and traditional acting — two worlds that, in her unique experience, have proved to be surprisingly symbiotic.
