SPOILER ALERT: Full of twists and turns, the Mare of Easttown Season 1 finale revealed that Erin McMenamin's killer was not the Ross family member that we had assumed the killer to be.
The episode revealed that the killer was actually John and Lori’s son Ryan, who was angry about his dad’s cheating ways and tried to scare Erin away with Mr. Carroll’s gun when the gun went off.
Some viewers had some issues watching last night's (May 30, 2021) finale as social media users reported HBO Max was down for many subscribers.
An HBO Max spokesperson told TVLine at 11:15 pm, “Some HBO Max users experienced Intermittent service disruptions this evening, but the issue was quickly resolved and service has been restored.”

The series grew in viewers every week, so naturally, HBO Max would want another season. That said, HBO’s press release to journalists announcing Mare of Easttown’s release date refers to the show as a “limited series” three times. Not only that, but Mare of Easttown is the show's creator, Brad Inglesby’s first work for television, with all of his film scripts being one-off concepts with no room for sequels.
As things stand right now, the only two bits of evidence in favor of a second season for Mare of Easttown are the fact that the viewers seem to enjoy it and so does its creator.
“I loved writing her because I just thought she was awesome. I just loved that she was tough. I just loved Mare. I still love Mare,” Inglesby told Collider of his Eastern Pennsylvania heroine.
