When you’re out celebrating a night at the theater, the last thing you expect is to become the subject of an editing controversy. That’s exactly what happened when Abby Lee Miller and Neil Patrick Harris shared the stage—or rather, the Instagram feed—this week.
The former Dance Moms star attended a performance of the Broadway revival “Art” at New York City’s Music Box Theatre, where she got to meet the show’s stars afterward. Miller posted a series of photos with the cast, including Neil Patrick Harris, James Corden, and Bobby Cannavale. While her caption was full of praise for the show, one particular edited photo caught everyone’s attention for all the wrong reasons.
Harris commented on the Dec. 1 Instagram post, “Ummm… what did you do to my face..?” The How I Met Your Mother alum’s face appeared unnaturally smoothed over in the selfie, with his skin looking almost poreless and plastic-like. Fans immediately noticed something was off, with viewers joking that he looked like a wax figure.

Social media users didn’t hold back their reactions. “Abby why did you do that to Neil,” one person wrote, complete with a crying emoji. Another fan chimed in asking, “Why was NPH yassified but no one else was?” The observation was spot-on—Corden and Cannavale appeared completely normal in their photos with Miller, making Harris’s smoothed appearance even more jarring.
Despite the editing drama, Miller had nothing but glowing things to say about the performance. She called Neil, James and Bobby “incredible comedic actors” and praised their impeccable timing on stage.
This isn’t Miller’s first rodeo with photo editing criticism. In 2024, a picture of her in the pool went viral and Redditors had a field day roasting her use of Facetune on just her face. One Reddit user at the time offered some sage advice about consistency when using filters, but it seems Miller isn’t ready to ease up on the editing just yet.
The 60-year-old reality TV personality has become somewhat notorious for her heavily filtered social media posts, with fans regularly calling out the difference between her edited photos and reality. Harris’s direct call-out, though, marks one of the rare occasions when a celebrity has publicly questioned Miller’s editing choices on their own appearance.
