Oscar nominations 2021

The Oscar nominations 2021 have arrived! This is months after the Film Academy formally announced that it was delaying the 93rd annual Academy Awards due to the pandemic. The Oscars themselves will take place on April 25, 2021 in Los Angeles.

This morning (Mar. 15, 2021), husband and wife duo Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra announced the nominees in a two-part ceremony.

Mank is the film with the most nominations overall, securing 10 nods including best picture, actor, and director. But it has stiff competition in the form of Nomadland, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Minari, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and Judas and the Black Messiah, all of which earned six nominations themselves.

Walking Dead alum Steven Yeun snagged an Oscar nomination on Monday for his performance in Minari. The actor’s nod was a historic one: Yeun becomes the first Asian-American performer to ever be recognized in the Lead Actor category.

Chadwick Boseman, who died of colon cancer in August 2020, received a posthumous nod for his turn in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, for which he won a Golden Globe earlier this year. And for the first time ever, the Best Directing category included two women: Nomadland‘s Chloé Zhao and Promising Young Woman‘s Emerald Fennell.
