I don’t know about you, but I love it when worlds collide. Case in point: I’m a devoted Drag Race fan, but I’m also obsessed with all things Twin Peaks. So imagine my delight when I discovered that Trixie Mattel was a guest on Kyle MacLachlan‘s podcast, What Are We Even Doing? In a genuinely delightful conversation, the pair cover everything from hydration and social media to achieving “baby girl” status and, somehow, free-running through Scientology buildings.
Kyle shares stories from his pre-fame days, while Trixie reflects on her musical theater background, her experiences with improv, and, of course, working alongside Katya (who I’m now hoping will make an appearance on a future episode).
The conversation also touches on The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Kyle’s surprising revelation about an iconic film he once auditioned for, and how dramatically different that movie might have been had he landed the role. Trixie opens up about the feeling of becoming completely absorbed in a character and enthusiastically praises Fallout. The two also discuss fan interactions and how Trixie’s life changed after appearing on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
As a fittingly quirky finale, Kyle and Trixie give a few doll heads a makeover while Trixie recounts the tale of a fly that found itself in a particularly hairy predicament and the pair discuss the perils and challenges of reality TV. I honestly can’t think of a better way to spend 30 minutes. If you’re having a bad day, consider this your palate cleanser.
