Australian Olympian Rachael “Raygun” Gunn has said sorry to the breaking community for the backlash her controversial Paris Games performance caused. However, she maintained that her “record speaks” to her being Australia's top B-girl.

The 37-year-old stirred up debate after getting knocked out early in the competition. Her routine, which included hopping like a kangaroo and rolling on the floor, quickly went viral.

Social media exploded with memes and videos mimicking her dance. The “kangaroo” move, where Gunn held her arms close and kicked one leg back while leaning, became especially popular online.

In her first interview since making headlines worldwide, Gunn told The Project on Australia's Network 10 that it was “really sad to hear those criticisms.” The full chat will air on Wednesday, but a sneak peek was released early.

“I am very sorry for the backlash that the community has experienced, but I can't control how people react,” she said.

When asked if she truly believed she's Australia's best female breaker, Gunn replied: “I think my record speaks to that.”

The incident has sparked discussions about Olympic breaking and how viral moments can impact athletes and their sports communities.
