Robert Pattinson perfectly captures the collective anticipation surrounding The Batman Part II. When questioned about the timeline for filming the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2022 blockbuster, he responded with refreshing honesty: “I f—ing hope so.”
During a conversation with his Mickey 17 castmate Naomi Ackie for Hero Magazine, Pattinson added between chuckles, “I started out as young Batman and I’m going to be f—ing old Batman by the sequel.”
“I’m 38. I’m old,” he stated, though Ackie dismissed this claim as “bulls—.” “I’m old, but I’m healthier,” he elaborated. “I think I’ve actually brought my biological age down a bit.”
The sequel has experienced multiple postponements by Warner Bros. since its official announcement at CinemaCon in April 2022. The release date shifted from 2025 to 2026, with the latest adjustment pushing it to 2027.
DC Studios co-head James Gunn clarified on Threads, “The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script… [director] Matt [Reeves] is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.”
Gunn later addressed the extended gap between releases on Threads, noting its frequency in sequels. “7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatars. 36 years between Top Guns. And, of course, 6 years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3.”
Reeves previously revealed, “We’ve given big parts of what we’ve written so far to DC and they know what we’re doing,” indicating that The Batman Part II will advance chronologically from the first film and The Penguin TV series. “Oz does become one of the entry points into the movie,” he mentioned regarding Colin Farrell’s character. “I can’t tell you where it goes from there, except to say that we’re super excited about it.”
