Fans of The Rocky Horror Show will soon have a new way to celebrate their favorite cult classic characters. On September 25, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum launched a Kickstarter Campaign to produce the first-ever Rocky Horror Show bobblehead collection.
The collection features seven bobbleheads inspired by the original 1973 stage production of The Rocky Horror Show, which went on to inspire the beloved 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Characters available through the campaign include Rocky, Brad, Janet, Magenta, Riff Raff, and Columbia, along with a Kickstarter-exclusive Dr. Frank-N-Furter bobblehead available only to campaign backers.
The bobbleheads are being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of The Rocky Horror Show. With a fundraising goal of $15,000, the Kickstarter campaign kicked off at midnight Central Time on Friday, September 25, and runs through midnight Central Time on Halloween, Saturday, October 31.
Each bobblehead is available for $30 plus shipping, with additional exclusive add-ons available through the campaign. Fans who want to support the project without purchasing a bobblehead can also contribute as little as $1 through the campaign page.
Only a limited number of bobbleheads will be produced, based on demand generated by the Kickstarter campaign. For collectors and Rocky Horror devotees, there’s an especially enticing reason to back the project: the Kickstarter is the only way to obtain the original Dr. Frank-N-Furter bobblehead.
Standing atop a red circular base featuring his name and the Rocky Horror logo, the bobblehead captures Frank in his iconic look, complete with a black corset, fishnet stockings, black briefs, pearl necklace, and towering platform heels.
The timing makes the collectible particularly poignant. Tim Curry, who originated the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter on stage and reprised it in his film debut in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, died on August 25 at age 80. His portrayal of the flamboyant scientist became one of the defining performances of the cult classic and helped make the character an enduring pop-culture icon.
