Audition mode in full force! Today was a great day. I did something I haven’t done in a long time. I went in to an audition and had FUN. It’s so easy the more successful we become, the more detached we get from the beauty of the audition itself. When you first move to LA you run around the town excitedly juggling auditions on completely opposite ends of town, you sit in traffic, run your lines with your roommate on the phone, find the closest Starbucks so you can pee, and usually change in your car from “boyfriend” outfit to “trial lawyer” suit just in time to realize “Shit! I left my black belt at home!” Today, only a week after being evicted from the @cbs_bigbrother house, I had a day that brought me back to 15 years ago. I had two auditions in LA today. I had to drive from my home in Newport at 6am to make it there in time. I sat in traffic for 2 hours. Had one audition, then had to drive to the Valley for another. I stopped at a Starbucks to pee and change my pants in the bathroom, then FaceTimed @marissajaretwinokur to run the scenes, changed my shirts in the parking lot of the studio (just feet from where I was a “celebrity” on Big Brother) and I forgot my belt! That moment reminded me how much I love my job. It brought me back to the 19 year old me that was just happy to have an audition and have fun. And so that’s what I did today, I was just happy to have the opportunity to audition and I went in and had fun. Because for those 7 mins, the role was mine. And I got to be creative and entertain people and make then laugh, and that’s why I became and actor in the first place. If I get the job, great, but I’ve already played the role. To all my fellow actors out there I just want to tell you and I think you’re extremely brave. I’m proud of you every day you wake up, print your audition, figure out what to wear, learn your lines, schlep your tired ass across town, walk in with a smile on your face and do your job.
