Shakira recently revealed the extent of her sacrifices to be with soccer player Gerard Pique, nearly two years after their separation and a year after the infamous strawberry jam jar incident. In an interview, the singer expressed that Pique's loyalty only lies with himself.
Shakira recently spoke to the Sunday Times about her past relationship with Barcelona footballer Gerard Pique. The 47-year-old reflected on their time together, which began on the set of her music video “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” in 2010 and resulted in two children, 11-year-old Milan and 9-year-old Sasha.
To make their partnership work, Shakira decided to relocate to Spain, spending a decade in a new city, to provide her children with a sense of stability while their father focused on his career with Barcelona.
According to the Times, the Colombian singer revealed that she had put her career on hold for a significant period of time to support her partner Gerard's football career. She stated that this required a great deal of sacrifice for the sake of love.
Naturally, the woman known for her exceptionally honest hips has previously expressed her true feelings towards her ex in various ways. This includes publicly mocking Pique through a song (“You may spend a lot of time at the gym, but your mind could use some work too”) and playing those lyrics outside her mother-in-law's house.
After their split, Pique has now moved on with his alleged mistress, Clara Chia Marti, who was previously employed at Pique's entertainment company and is over 20 years younger than Shakira. However, Shakira also has a sharp comeback for this situation: “I'm worth more than two 22-year-olds. You traded in a Ferrari for a Twingo.”
After resolving her tax evasion charges by reaching a deal with prosecutors in November, which involved paying €7 million to avoid potential imprisonment, Shakira appears to be rebuilding her career. She was recognized for her achievements last year when she received MTV's Video Vanguard Award, making her the first South American artist to do so.
Based on her recent interview, the singer, who currently resides in Miami, seems determined to make a musical comeback following her breakup. It is now Shakira's turn to prioritize herself and her musical journey.
