Inspired by 2024’s Met Gala, pet couturier and women’s wear designer Anthony Rubio created fashion fit for dogs. Just a few weeks following the year’s most famous fashion event, the AKC Museum of the Dog in New York City hosted the inaugural Pet Gala, a night of canine fashion modeled after looks worn at the Met Gala.
The Pet Gala started as a photo project in 2013 by Anthony Rubio. For years, Rubio recreated looks from the Met Gala for chic canines and then shared his creations via annual photoshoots. For 2024, Rubio partnered with the AKC Museum of the Dog to expand the project and turn it into its own glam event.
“I want people to understand that we’re not making fun of the Met Gala. We’re not mimicking the Met Gala,” Rubio told the Associated Press. “We’re elevating and appraising and appreciating the wonderful designs that were presented at the Met Gala by the most talented designers of the world.”
