The Week in Drag – Raja, Mariah, Kameron Michaels and More!

It has been a jam-packed week in the world of drag. We’ve got new music, videos and more from your favorite Drag Race queens and one of Socialite Life’s faves, the hilarious Miss Coco Peru! We’ve got a lot of ground to cover, so start your engines.

The legendary Raja joined Willam and Alaska to revisit the first episode of Drag Race season 3 on this week’s “Race Chaser” Classiqe. The dolls also got into some “Hot Goss” earlier this week and it is some steaming teavana. Check out both episodes.

Drag royalty Miss Coco Peru, who I am hoping gets some Emmy love for her guest appearances on Will and Grace this season, once again gives us YouTube gold as she takes us along on a quest for her favorite press-on nail. By the way, if you haven’t already, subscribe to her YouTube channel. Her videos are the best.

Season 11’s “Queen of the North”, Brooke Lynn Hytes, returned to her homeland, participating in Toronto Pride festivities last weekend. She told ET Canada that “Pride is a special time of year for me ’cause this is actually when I came out to my family. It just means celebrating who we are, coming together as a community and a reminder that…there’s so much more work to do as a community.”

She went on to add that, “All anybody wants in the world is just to be the same as anybody else. We deserve equal rights, equal health care, equal pay for everybody across the board — bar none. And I know that’s not so much of an issue in Canada but…there’s work to be done everywhere just for total equality for all. It’s such a simple concept but I think that’s just all what anybody wants at the end of the day.”

Finally, an MTV show we can all get behind! Bob the Drag Queen has a new web series called Drag My Dad, and it’s the makeover show you didn’t know you needed.

Bob and Monét X Change take their “Sibling Rivalry” to the workroom, as they compete in a 10-minute dressmaking challenge. They also interview designer, Diego Montoya and discuss all things fashion. I think Monét nailed the challenge, don’t you?

Season 10’s Kameron Michaels released the video for her new single, “Freedom” on Tuesday. In a tweet, she said, “I’ve been waiting a long time to reimagine my “American” lyrics. I’m no American Idol type of gal, but if I can make one more person love themselves for who they are, I’m gonna do it.”

The stunning Mariah Balenciaga, who we miss here in Atlanta SO MUCH, joins Brad Goreski kiki about fashion and show off some of her favorite looks, including a beautiful update of her season three elimination look on “Iconic.”

With World Pride taking place in New York City this weekend, there’s no better time to check out this amazing short film sponsored by Pepsi starring Monét X Change, Nina West, Alyssa Edwards, Plastique Tiara and Shuga Cain.

If you like Fail Army videos and drag queens, have I got a video for you, On the latest episode of “Beatdown”, Willam takes on squabbling ladies, crazy nails and even herself taking a tumble.

In this JewTorial, Miz Cracker teaches you how to stack your wigs!

This week, WOWPresents posted a “Fashion Photo Ruview” from DragCon with Raja and Aquaria.

If you ever wanted to go on a shopping spree with Violet Chachki and Naomi Smalls, you can now on this episode of “Shop Like a Queen.”

And, oh my, God, Violet pays tribute to the iconic Divine in her latest makeup tutorial. Not only does she nail the look, but she also re-enacts the famous scene from Pink Flamingos (no, not that one) when Divine struts down the streets of Baltimore, looking fabulous, to the sounds of Little Richard singing ”The Girl Can’t Help It.” I’m dead.

Did you know Jinkx Monsoon has a web series called “Cool Mom”? Well, you do now! Watch this episode where Jinkx and her gay son Kamikaze talk about birthdays.

Season one (OG) queen Tammie Brown talks to Billboard about her upcoming concept album, Schubert. due out on October 9. When asked if she’d return for another season of All-Stars, she said, “I would go back on the show for the fans,” adding, “Of course, the extra publicity would be great. Maybe [an extra] 16 million followers. If the fans wanted and they asked, I would. I would suggest the fans write World of Wonder and let them know how they feel.” And, when asked what fans could expect if she returned, she said, “I’ll go on the show and run my mouth as fast as I can and make as many soundbites as I can, which I do normally — it’s easy for me, a stroke of genius, to run my mouth.” I love Tammie so much.

Aja is the subject of the latest in the “Follow Me” series on World of Wonder.

Are you watching RuPaul’s new talk show? It’s so much fun and you can catch all of the episodes on YouTube. If you want a taste of what’s in store for you, check out this clip of a rousing round of “Name that Queen.” The game is hosted by Ross Matthews and pits Ru and Michelle Visage against guest Adam Lambert.

Ru answers some “burning questions” in this Buzzfeed video, talking about (among other things) how long it takes to get into drag, her early days as a performer and her first pride experience. Ru also (I think?) hints that we my see a return of RuPaul’s Drag U. As someone who auditioned but didn’t make the cut, this would be awesome. I need my drag makeover! Please, mama Ru, make this happen!

Season 10 (and rumored competitor on the new season of All-Stars) Mayhem Miller, is the guest on this week’s Hey Qween!

Sasha Velour moderated a panel of drag kings and other queer performers for GQ Magazine. She spoke with Merlot, Vigor Mortis, K.James, Nyx Nocturne and the hilarious Murray Hill (who served as emcee for Dita Von Teese‘s live shows) and posed as Joan of Arc in a gorgeous photo. In the article, she writes, Joan of Arc “Queer terminology is always shifting and being updated, and “drag” right now means something very positive, a type of intensely gendered performance that’s lighthearted but also political…a category that people want to be part of. But that, too, may change.” The article is a great read, and I’m so glad to see alternative queer performers in the spotlight.

If you can’t get enough of your favorite queens, WOWPresents has got you covered with a slate of shows featuring Nina West, Soju, Shuga Cain, Yvie Oddly, Asia O’Hara, Kameron Michaels, Miss Vanjie, Silky Nutmeg Ganache and so many more. Check out the sizzle reel and head over to WOWPresents on YouTube to get your fill of this fabulousness.

Phew! It’s been a busy week and there’s more to come. Have a drag-tastic week and I’ll be back next week with the latest tea from the queens. Until then, everybody say LOVE!
