Nine years ago Channing Tatum gifted the world Magic Mike. The movie is loosely based on Tatum's years as a male stripper before hitting it big in Hollywood.
Magic Mike was directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, and Matthew McConaughey. The plot revolves around Adam (Pettyfer), a 19-year-old who enters the world of male stripping, guided by Mike Lane (Tatum), who has been in the business for six years.
Magic Mike proved to be a box office hit, grossing $113,721,571 and $53,500,000 outside North America with a total gross of $167,221,571 worldwide. Considering it was made for $7 million, that the film did exceptionally well.
The film produced a sequel, Magic Mike XXL, and has spawned a Las Vegas show, an Australian live show, plus a forthcoming competition series on HBO Max.
When I attended the screening of the second Magic Mike film, Magic Mike XXL, the audience was so amped up, it was as if they were attending an actual strip show.
