Aaron Rodgers has thanked Shailene Woodley for showing him โ€œunconditional loveโ€.

The 38-year-old Green Bay Packers quarterback and the 30-year-old actress were reported to have called off their engagement after encountering issues they โ€œcouldnโ€™t surmountโ€ earlier this month.

And, almost a week following their breakup, the NFL star has gushed over his ex-fiancee and thanked her for letting him be a part of her life.

He began the lengthy post: โ€œHereโ€™s someโ€ฆ #MondayNightGratitude for some of the incredibly special people in my life, with some pictures from the last beautiful year.โ€

Aaron then said of the โ€˜Big Little Liesโ€™ star: โ€œ@shailenewoodley, thanks for letting me chase after you the first couple months after we met, and finally letting me catch up to you and be a part of your life. Thanks for always having my back, for the incredible kindness you show me and everyone you meet, and for showing me what unconditional love looks like, I love you and am grateful for you.โ€

The pairโ€™s split was confirmed by a source who told People: โ€œIt was an amicable split; it just wasnโ€™t working. Theyโ€™re very different people with busy careers and there were obstacles that they couldnโ€™t surmount.โ€

Shailene and Aaron remain on good terms despite ending their romantic relationship.

The insider added: โ€œThey will remain friendly; thereโ€™s no bad blood and no drama. It just didnโ€™t work out for them.โ€

Shailene and the sportsman started dating in 2020, and an insider recently claimed that they had a โ€œnon-traditional relationshipโ€.

The celebrity duo made a concerted effort to keep their romance low-key, but they were said to be very happy together at the end of 2021.

The source explained: โ€œThey have a different, non-traditional relationship.โ€

Meanwhile, Shailene previously admitted she never watched an NFL game before she started dating Aaron.

The Hollywood star explained that the Packers games โ€œare the only ones I find really interesting because I have people to actually root forโ€.

She said: โ€œIt is a whole new world, learning all of the different โ€“ I still am always, โ€˜Oh, you scored a goal.โ€™ Heโ€™s like, โ€˜Itโ€™s a touchdown.โ€™ Or Iโ€™ll be like, โ€˜You crossed the line,โ€™ and heโ€™s like, โ€˜Itโ€™s a yard,โ€™ or whatever.โ€
