CNN's Anderson Cooper faced a scary moment Wednesday night (Oct. 09, 2024) while covering Hurricane Milton in Florida. The veteran reporter was suddenly struck near his right eye by a flying piece of debris.

“Whoa!” Cooper exclaimed, the impact making an audible thud on his microphone. “OK, that wasn't good,” he added, hinting at wrapping up soon.

This heart-stopping incident occurred at 9:04 p.m. ET in Bradenton, about half an hour after Milton made landfall. The 57-year-old journalist was in the thick of it, with the hurricane packing winds up to 120 mph and leaving over 3 million Floridians in the dark.

Back in the studio, anchor Kaitlan Collins reassured worried viewers, “I do want to note for everyone watching who is very concerned obviously, about all of our correspondents and anchors on the ground, Anderson is OK.”

As we watch these brave reporters face danger, it's a stark reminder of the risks they take to keep us informed. Milton's fury comes on the heels of Hurricane Helene's devastating impact on the East Coast, where the death toll across six states has tragically risen to 230.
