Andrew Garfield has caught a glimpse of an intimate scene from Luca Guadagnino‘s Queer, and he's quite impressed.

The latest film from the Challengers director, featuring Daniel Craig as an American writer falling for a young man (Drew Starkey) in 1940s Mexico, recently premiered at the Venice International Film Festival to positive feedback.

While not universally adored like some of Guadagnino's other works, Queer has earned praise for Craig's stellar performance and its deep dive into masculinity, both psychologically and physically.

Many reviewers have highlighted the film's intimate scenes, describing them as showing “the kind of carnal gay sex we rarely see on-screen.” It seems critics and festival-goers aren't the only ones talking about it!

In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter while promoting his new film We Live in Time, Andrew Garfield shared that he's seen an intimate scene between Craig and Starkey. This happened while working with Guadagnino on the upcoming After the Hunt, alongside Ayo Edebiri (Bottoms), Chloë Sevigny (Lizzie), and Julia Roberts.

When asked about Queer, the Tick, Tick… Boom! star said: “He's been trying to get me in for a screening. He's only shown me one blowjob scene, which I thought was so genuinely beautiful, like it was such a beautiful love scene between Daniel [Craig] and Drew [Strakey] and it's just so tender and full of longing.”

“And obviously graphic in certain ways,” Garfield added. “But I just thought, ‘Oh, I'm gonna love this film.' [Guadagnino is] such a sensualist and a humanist and in touch with his own longing.”
