LACMA Art+Film Gala: Garfield and Barbaro Go Full Gucci, Kidman Confesses Sweaty Armpits, Chalamet and Kylie Turn Up

Andrew Garfield showed up to LACMA in Gucci to promote a movie about Sam Altman, and somehow turned it into the most swooned-over date of the night.

He and Monica Barbaro arrived side by side to pose for photos at the 2026 LACMA Art+Film Gala, standing against the columns of Chris Burden’s “Urban Light” installation, and social media promptly lost it.

Barbaro went for a sparkling white sequined Gucci gown with a backless silhouette, while Garfield matched her in tailored black evening wear.

Their press tour has been one long mutual compliment. Garfield called Barbaro a “wonderful actor” who is “so talented,” saying she brought a “mysterious enigma of a person” to life.

Barbaro returned serve, calling him “one of the best actors of our generation” and admitting she felt pushed to be a “legitimate scene partner.”

In Luca Guadagnino‘s film, Garfield plays Sam Altman while Barbaro plays former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati. Nothing says chemistry like a boardroom coup.

The night’s real headline came from the stage. Wearing a flowing white Gucci gown with feather-trimmed sleeves, Eva Chow announced: “After 15 wonderful years, this will be my final year serving as co-chair.”

Her longtime co-chair Leonardo DiCaprio was MIA this year, and the search for a replacement is already underway, according to a source. Chow recalled pitching DiCaprio at his house. “He is not a person who does a lot of co-chairing for events, but I thought I would try,” she said.

At least the checks cleared. More than 600 guests raised a record of nearly $7 million.

Nicole Kidman, introducing honoree Denis Villeneuve, opened with: “I’m sweating, so I’m just going to disclose I have sweaty armpits.” She had flown 15 hours from Chanel’s cruise show in Australia, so the armpits had earned it.

Villeneuve, seated beside Timothée Chalamet, admitted museums make him “feel like a vampire.” Then he nearly leaked Hollywood’s best-kept secret. He started to name the next James Bond before stopping cold, saying “Amy Pascal is about to have a heart attack.”

Chalamet was in the room, and so was Kylie Jenner, in a brown-and-silver Ashi Studio couture gown with a fawn-inspired sequin pattern and an open back.

This is the man who said “I would like to say thank you to my partner of three years” at the Critics Choice Awards in January. Saturday required no speech.

Homer Gere also wore Gucci. Richard Gere’s eldest landed in the nepo baby discourse when his acting debut came with a sex scene on “Euphoria,” before a bigger role in “The Shards.” The former high school bookworm told People, “I loved physics.” Dad has raved, “He’s very good.”

Jordan Firstman went rogue in Ferragamo at Gucci’s own party. Spanish singer-songwriter Guitarricadelafuente also worked the carpet.

Honoree Vija Celmins, 88, first asked “Why did I let them in my studio?” about her tribute film, then delivered the night’s best review: “You guys are just crazy party people.” Rosé followed with the live debut of her new single “New Trick.” Celmins wasn’t wrong.
