Angelina Jolie is reportedly accusing Brad Pitt of attempting to make her sign a non-disclosure agreement related to abuse allegations.
People reports that according to court documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on July 25, Pitt tried to have Jolie sign an $8.5 million NDA related to her allegations of abuse against him.
In the documents, Jolie's lawyers argued in support of Pitt having to disclose personal communications. However, Pitt's lawyers described the motion as “wide-ranging and intrusive” in a separate filing.
The couple's ongoing divorce has been slowed by several legal issues, including a heated custody battle, the aftermath of a 2016 plane incident, and a disagreement over Jolie's sale of her part in Château Miravel, a French winery they bought in 2014.
The new documents show Jolie's lawyers defending her choices, saying she “was not acting with malice and the intent to hurt Pitt in response to any custody ruling” when she decided to sell her share of Château Miraval in 2021.
The documents went on to say that, “instead, it was Pitt who refused to buy her interest unless he received his newly expanded NDA, enforceable by an $8.5 million holdback specifically designed to force her silence about his abuse and cover-up.”
Jolie's attorneys added that “while Pitt advances what is effectively an outdated privacy-of-domestic-violence argument to shield his abuse, his argument is not the law, at least not in this century, and he cites no authority that would give him such unwarranted protections. In any event, he waived any privacy protections when he sued Jolie.”
Pitt and Jolie first met in 2004 while filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith. They married in a beautiful ceremony at Château Miravel in 2014. The pair has six children, all of whom attended the wedding: Maddox, 22; Pax, 20; Zahara, 19; Shiloh, 18; and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16.
Jolie filed for divorce in 2016, citing “irreconcilable differences” and asking for primary custody of all six kids.
