In a swift and dramatic turn of events, Armie Hammer, once celebrated as Hollywood’s rising star, found himself working as a concierge in a hotel in the Cayman Islands after a scandal rocked Hollywood.

Hammer’s career began to unravel after accusations of BDSM and cannibalistic fetishes surfaced on social media. The situation further worsened when a user named Effie accused Hammer of rape, claiming they had agreed on a safe word before engaging in BDSM, but she never used it.

Breaking his silence, Hammer shared his side of the story on the podcast Painful Lessons, hosted by his friend Tyler Ramsey (watch below). During the interview, Hammer confessed to a past marked by promiscuity, alcohol, and drug addiction.

Looking healthier, Hammer directly addressed the rumors, including the most sensational one that he was a cannibal. “People called me a cannibal. Like I ate people! What?? You know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people!” he exclaimed.

Hammer acknowledged that the scandal, which included allegations of abuse and cannibalism, led him to join a 12-step program. He described the experience as “a death,” elaborating, “I was drunk! I was high and I was acting like an idiot all the time!”

Reflecting on his ordeal, Hammer admitted to having suicidal thoughts and even a near-attempt, halted only by thoughts of his family. “There were a lot of times when I thought I can’t take this anymore […] I was getting hate…so it just went right in… there was a time I was standing at the shore and I swam out really far and just laying there, a half-assed suicide attempt…But I thought I couldn’t do that to my kids.”

Currently, Hammer’s acting career is at a standstill. While he is no longer part of Hollywood, he is channeling his creativity into writing a screenplay with a friend named Jerry.

In 2023, following his fall from grace due to the #MeToo movement, reports surfaced that Robert Downey Jr. offered Hammer temporary housing and financial support until he could regain stability.
