Actor and singer Ben Platt is opening up about his sexuality and getting candid about the men he has dated in a new interview to promote his debut solo album.
The 25-year-old Platt is releasing his album Sing To Me Instead on March 29, 2019, and he says the songs represent his life.
“If I was going to write about people I loved, I wasn’t going to pretend they weren’t men just because I hadn’t talked about that before,” Ben revealed to People magazine.

Ben came out as gay at age 12, but really gives him the “first opportunity to represent my relationships and the men that I’ve loved. I only wanted to take this leap if I was going to present every part of myself.”
The music video for Ben‘s song “Ease My Mind” has just dropped and actor Charlie Carver plays his love interest.

“When we were conceptualizing this sort of loose narrative that we wanted to connect through the videos, there was not really any moment where we had to decide it should be about me and a man as opposed to anything else because it was just, ‘We’re going to represent what this was inspired by,’ which was this man that I was in love with. So it was really a no-brainer,” Ben said.
The Broadway star-turned recording artist recent announced cities and dates for the Sing To Me Instead concert tour, including engagements in Boston, Chicago, Austin, Los Angeles, and New York City.

His additional upcoming projects include Ryan Murphy’s The Politician for Netflix and Ricky Tollman’s Run This Down, set to play the South by Southwest Film Festival in March.
