Universal Pictures revealed Thursday it has secured rights to make a movie based on Britney Spears‘ 2023 bestseller, The Woman in Me.

Universal announced in its press release that the film will be helmed by Jon M. Chu, who's preparing for the November launch of his eagerly awaited movie Wicked, which features Ariana Grande and Cynthia ErivoMarc Platt will produce.

Spears shared on X that she's “excited” to let fans know about “a secret project” she's been crafting with Platt. “He's always made my favorite movies … stay tuned,” she wrote.

An insider familiar with the deal told Variety that Spears will be “involved” in the project but didn't specify if she'll have a say in creative decisions.

Spears' memoir, which hit shelves in October 2023, chronicled her journey to stardom and her controversial 13-year conservatorship. She also opened up about her relationship and split from Justin Timberlake, revealing she had an abortion while dating him over two decades ago.

The book sold 1.1 million copies in the U.S. in its first week, and has reached over 2.5 million sales in the U.S. to date, according to Universal.

“I went from partying a lot to being a total monk,” Spears writes in the memoir. “Security guards handed me prepackaged envelopes of meds and watched me take them. They put parental controls on my iPhone. Everything was scrutinized and controlled. Everything.”
